This is great, the absence of animals in NDE stories has been one considerable source of skepticism here. Whether it's Christianity or NDEs, I've always been suspicious of stories with an "everything is all about humans" focus. Let us please recall, we are one of millions of species on this planet. And while we have some unique properties, so do all the other creatures. And there are countless other habitable planets spread across billions of galaxies. Any notion that God is focused primarily on human beings seems sort of a self serving ego based children's fairy tale, imho.

My wife is an avid wildlife rehabber, so I've essentially lived in a wildlife hospital for over 20 years. That experience has taught me that birds, squirrels and other wildlife aren't just a species, but are individuals, just like us. Their personalities may not be as complex and sophisticated as ours, but they definitely have individual personal differences. Some individuals are bold, and some are timid. Some are friendly, while others can be grouchy. Some are very social, while others are more loners. Some love walnuts, while others prefer peanuts. Wildlife individuals are as diverse as our individual pets.

So while I applaud this article for taking us past humans, the focus on our pets does tend to perpetuate the "everything is all about us" perspective.

Lady Cromwell was a little fawn-colored pug. She was slightly older than 10 when she passed away. About a week or so later I went into grandma‘s bedroom where she died When I turned to the large mirror behind the dresser there she was! She seemed to be smiling, certainly happy and pleased to see me, as I was to see her. It was apparent that some invisible person or spirit was holding her so that all I saw were her little legs, her chest and a beautiful ‘smiling’ face. I was transfixed for quite a while trying to understand how I was seeing this. It was magic. It was love, and she came back to say goodbye. I’ll never forget Her.
