Coming Home is a documentary film series that shares the stories of people transformed by near-death experiences (NDEs). Founded by Jesse and Eliot Estrin, Coming Home has published 23 documentaries to a growing audience of over 314,000 subscribers, with 29 million total views.
Our Substack marks the next phase of this journey—an online publication reaching more than 20,000 email subscribers, where near-death experiencers, scholars, and scientists share their work on NDEs with one another and the public.
We’re now accepting submissions for essays that explore the phenomena of near-death experiences and the wider field of consciousness studies.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome original writing on topics including, but not limited to:
Autobiographical accounts of NDEs
Philosophical and metaphysical implications of NDEs
Scientific research on NDEs and consciousness
Spiritual or religious interpretations of NDEs
Historical and cultural perspectives
The transformative effects of NDEs on individuals and society
Interdisciplinary approaches to NDEs and altered states
The relationship between NDEs and psychedelics
By curating thoughtful, rigorous, and accessible work, Coming Home aims to bring these experiences and ideas to a broader audience—facilitating greater conversation around spirituality, history, science, psychology, medicine, and the mystery of consciousness itself through the NDE phenomenon.
Who Should Submit
We’re looking for contributors who can engage our readership with clarity, depth, and a sense of purpose. Ideal writers may include:
Scholars, researchers, or science writers familiar with writing for public audiences
Practicing professionals or creatives with subject-matter expertise
Near-death experiencers who can thoughtfully and reflectively share their story
Authors or journalists with a publication record or relevant writing samples
Writers should be comfortable supporting their ideas with research, personal insight, or both. If available, please include links to previous publications, your CV, or any materials that give us a sense of your voice and background.
We especially value writing that is personal without being unstructured, intellectual without being inaccessible, and spiritual without being dogmatic.
How to Submit
To submit your work for consideration, please email adam@cominghomefilms.org with the subject line: Submission for Coming Home
Attach a single Word document that includes:
A short pitch (400–600 words) describing your proposed essay
A brief author bio (100–150 words)
Any relevant links to your published work, personal website, or Substack
If available, a CV or writing sample that reflects your background and writing experience
Essays should be in the range of 2,000–5,000 words. We welcome proposals for original, unpublished work. Previously published material may be considered if you retain the rights to share it.
Our editorial team will review your submission and respond within 2–4 weeks. If your piece is selected, you’ll work closely with our editors to prepare it for publication on the Coming Home Substack.
Compensation is available for selected contributors.
